From the Web: Social Media and High School Journalism

As with many districts across the United States, my district blocks student (and teacher) access to social media. Thus far, we don't have a policy anywhere near as draconian as the one proposed in Rhode Island. Here's a little Xtranormal video I ran across on Twitter (via @SPLC) that explains the situation.

  1. If you wrote this on school computer, you are violating WCCUSD policy. You cannot use outside email address. I believe that includes including your email address on a blog post. I've recently read the 2 page policy and there are some ridiculous stuff.

  2. Actually, I don't do any of my blogging from school computers. Since this activity is not related to my employment, but is something I do as an educator, I write from my home computer only.
