Fake or Real? from NOVA ScienceNOW
Here's a great site for discussing photo alterations with students. I like the glossary on the left hand side of the page and the examples shown. You can enlarge the photo samples to determine if they are real or fake, then listen to the explanation for a photography expert.

this is a great example to show the students that they cannot always believe what they see and that they should always look at all the facts before making a decision, thus giving them a good reason to actually pay attention in history classes. It is always gratifying, to find real world examples to show students how to study the facts to make up their own minds.
ReplyDeleteSome of the examples here are very clever fakes. I agree that this is a great way to show students why they need to be critical consumers of information.
